About this work.

This print is from a personal project documenting the private working lives of artists and artisans. This portrait of the working life of artist Harland Miller was photographed over two  afternoons at the artists studio off the Old Kent Road, London. Shot on film, the story telling nature of the contact sheet is used to conjure a sense of narrative - what happened before and what comes after. Physically the negative holds the subject in a time capsule, the textural details are there to reference this tactility. The image as a whole can be looked at as a visual diary, giving the viewer a better understanding of the subject and preserving the space as it will never be again. The idea of creating archives  is central to my practice, images are made to be reflected upon knowing that they are absolutely unique in their preservation of a narrative from a particular time and space.
